DOWN FOR THE 3RD TIME: NYT BLASTS SLC AGAIN

In what is fast becoming an annual tradition, The New York Times editorializes for the third time against St. Lawrence Cement's vast, coal-fired plant proposal in Columbia County.

The Times notes that while SLC recently announced modest changes to its plant design, these changes "have the effect of running full speed to stay in the same place. ... This would all sound good, if we had not heard it before."

The paper chides New York State Governor George Pataki that it "called nearly a year ago -- and a year before that - for Mr. Pataki to find the political courage to put an end to this proposal. He has a rare opportunity to prevent serious environmental and scenic degradation of the Hudson River Valley. He should seize it before it's too late."
