CONGRESSMAN SAYS HE IS NEUTRAL ON SLCRED HOOK -- During a recent visit to Dutchess County, Congressman John Sweeney was asked about the coal-fired SLC proposal by Kingston Daily Freeman reporter Patricia Doxsey:"On one issue of local concern -- plans by St. Lawrence Cement to construct a cement manufacturing facility in Columbia County -- Sweeney said he continues to be neutral. 'I hear strongly from both sides on the issue,' said Sweeney, adding that he is waiting to form an opinion until scientists at the state level to conclude their review of the project." The statement was welcomed by opponents such as Friends of Hudson, since early in the five-year-old controversy Sweeney had been perceived as pro-plant. The Congressman has since suggested that was a misperception. HOME |  ARCHIVES BOX 326 HUDSON NY 12534 (518) 822-0334 TEL (518) 822-9435 FAX |
