ASSEMBLYMAN SPEAKS OUT ON SLC

ALBANY -- In a lengthy profile in the December 22nd, 2003 edition of the Capital District Business Review, Assemblyman Patrick Manning (R-East Fishkill, 6' 11") speaks out about the vast, coal-fired St. Lawrence Cement facility proposed for Hudson and Greenport.

CDBR reporter Eric Durr quotes Manning as saying that while "The cement industry has a long and proud history in Columbia County... I don't know at this point in time that something of that size and magnitude belongs there." Manning noted the incompatibility of the SLC plant with the existing local economy, for example retail and agricultural businesses.

Manning's assembly district, the 103rd, covers the three municipalities most potentially-impacted by the SLC proposal (Hudson, Greenport, and Claverack) as well as much of southern Columbia and Northern Dutchess counties.
